Don't have time to read the full review? Go directly to the Conclusions section to find out what I liked the most and what I liked the least about the OPPO Find X2 Neo.

OPPO is establishing itself as one of the most interesting brands in terms of value for money, as well as for offering features such as high screen refresh rate or super-fast charging that are not yet present in all devices.

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to test the Oppo Find X2 Pro, a full-fledged flagship ready to face the big smartphones from other manufacturers. Today we bring a model with tighter features but also with a more affordable price: OPPO Find X2 Neo.

The Oppo Find X2 Neo has a 6.5″ FullHD+ AMOLED screen at 90 Hz, Snapdragon 765G 5G processor, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, wide angle (48MP) + ultra wide angle (8MP) + 2x telephoto rear camera (13MP) + monochrome (2MP), 32MP front camera, and 4,025 mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

Courtesy of OPPO, I have had the opportunity to thoroughly test the OPPO Find X2 Neo for several weeks and here is my in-depth analysis.

Design and construction

The design of the OPPO Find X2 Neo does not differ much from that found in other high-end smartphones. Its front is dominated by a large 6.5″ screen with fairly narrow frames and a hole for the front camera.

The position chosen by OPPO for the hole in the upper left corner is, in my opinion, a success.

When you hold the phone horizontally to play games, it sits where you normally hold your fingers and therefore doesn't cover any useful interface elements. Other smartphones place this camera in the center and it can interfere.

Unlike other smartphones that have a more prominent lower frame (the famous "chin"), the Oppo Find X2 Neo has a narrow chin, almost the same thickness as the upper frame, so the smartphone presents a front that, to the naked eye, is perceived symmetrical.

As a result, we are faced with a smartphone with a high screen-to-body ratio, around 90% according to GSMarena measurements.

The side edges of the screen have a fairly pronounced curvature, so the screen appears darker on the sides, especially when looking at the phone from an angle.

Since the curvature of the screen only serves an aesthetic function, many users wonder if the aesthetic appearance compensates for the disadvantages of visibility and resistance to drops. It is a matter of taste.

The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, although I can't deny that I would have liked to see the later generation Gorilla Glass 6 for greater strength and durability. For reference, Corning recently announced the seventh generation Gorilla Glas Victus.

The Oppo Find X2 Neo has an aluminum chassis and a glass back cover. The phone is available in black and blue colors, both of which elegantly reflect light.

The back cover has a glossy finish, so fingerprints are left on the surface. Lately we are seeing a trend of matte colors that, personally, I find very interesting since the fingerprints do not remain marked.

In the back, the vertical camera module stands out. The island where the cameras are located protrudes considerably from the surface and, unlike other manufacturers, it does not have a square layout but an elongated one. Since it is located in the upper left corner, the phone dances when you tap on the screen when it is resting on a surface.

The back of the Oppo Find X2 Neo is curved at the sides, which helps make it appear even slimmer than it already is.

With a thickness of 7.7 mm. and a weight of 171 grams, it is one of the thinnest and lightest smartphones that have passed through my hands. Now that smartphones are getting bigger and bulkier, it's appreciated that a manufacturer has opted for a compact device.

Next, we are going to review the different elements that we find on the sides of the phone.

On the right side we find the power button with a green detail, which has a good tactile sensation.

On the left side we find two volume buttons.

The upper part of the phone is free of any elements.

The bottom of the phone has a USB-C connector, the speaker, and the SIM card tray.

One thing that caught my attention is that on my review unit, the tray does not sit flush with the surface, but rather protrudes slightly from the surface. Possibly it is a defect in my unit but it does not give a very good feeling since, when passing the finger, the relief is noticeable, and it makes me wonder if water can leak through there.

OPPO has not provided the Find X2 Neo with IP68 waterproof protection, so we must prevent the phone from falling into water.

Since OPPO does not incorporate this resistance even in its flagship OPPO Find X2 Pro, this absence does not surprise me but I would like to have the peace of mind that if it falls into water or gets wet, nothing will happen to it .

Screen

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has a large 6.5″ AMOLED screen with an elongated 20:9 ratio. The screen resolution is Full HD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixels), which implies a high pixel density of 402 dpi that ensures that texts and images look very sharp.

Since it is an OLED screen, the sub-pixel matrix is of the Pentile type. This means that the sub-pixels are placed in a diamond shape with more green sub-pixels than red or blue. Therefore, the effective resolution of the panel is lower than the nominal when the screen displays blue or red colors.

LCD screens found in other phones feature RGB matrices, where sub-pixels are placed one after the other, in red-green-blue (RGB) rows, so the advertised resolution applies equally to the LCDs. sub-pixels of each color.

Pentile matrix of the OLED panel of the OPPO Find X2 Neo

One of the remarkable aspects of the OPPO Find X2 Neo is its refresh rate, which reaches 90 Hz, above other smartphones that offer a conventional rate of 60 Hz.

If you've never tried a smartphone with a high refresh rate, the difference is quite noticeable and, to a certain extent, addictive because once you've tried it, it's hard to go back to 60 Hz. The 90 Hz refresh rate of the Find X2 Neo is especially noticeable when scrolling in the application drawer, the browser or in your social network feeds such as Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Content moves more smoothly.

As of today, there are few videos and games that take advantage of a high refresh rate, since most are limited to 60 fps.

The main drawback of using a high refresh rate is the increased battery consumption. By default, OPPO is set to 90 Hz but there is a mode that automatically adapts the refresh rate to the content displayed.

The screen offers a touch sampling rate of 180 Hz, which means it should respond more quickly to touches on the screen.

Focusing on the quality of the panel, the screen of the Oppo Find X2 Neo covers the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces. If you're not familiar with color spaces, the sRGB (Rec. 709) space is the Android standard, while the DCI-P3 space offers a wider color gamut and is used in the film industry.

Color spaces. Source: AVS Forum

There is an even wider color space called Rec. 2020, which covers 76 percent of the spectrum visible to the human eye.

No current panel is capable of displaying this full color space, instead they typically stick to around 60 percent.

On the other hand, HDR technology increases the dynamic range of color tones displayed on the screen. The OPPO Find X2 Neo panel is compatible with HDR10+, so we can enjoy compatible content from YouTube and other sources.

The Oppo Find X2 Neo offers two screen calibration modes: Vivid and Soft.

Vivid mode covers the DCI P3 color gamut, providing richer colors when viewing sRGB content, which is typically used by all apps. Smooth mode is calibrated to the sRGB color mode, making it best suited for most apps on your smartphone.

To analyze the quality of the screen we have carried out various tests with the professional software CalMAN Ultimate and an X-Rite i1Display Pro colorimeter.

By default, the Vivid mode is active which, as we have said, targets the DCI P3 color gamut. In particular, it covers 100% of the Android standard sRGB color space and 97% of the wider DCI P3 color space.

This means colors look oversaturated in almost all apps, as Android apps typically use the sRGB space. This excess of color produces images that are more striking but less faithful to reality. Therefore, if we retouch a photo on the phone, we may be disappointed when we see it later on another device. Or if we buy clothes or a piece of furniture for the house, maybe the real colors are not like the ones we saw on the screen.

Now, oversaturated colors offer an important advantage when we use the phone in broad daylight since, under the sun, the colors lose their strength. In addition, many users prefer more intense colors, even if they are less faithful to reality.

In Vivid mode, the average error in color fidelity against the DCI P3 gamut is better than expected as we get a value of 2.9 dE (a value below 4 dE is considered excellent and above 9 is considered unacceptable), and the maximum error turns out to be 8.7 dE.

In my tests, this mode covers 97% of the DCI P3 gamut which, as I said, is a much wider gamut than the sRGB standard.

The color temperature is 7,287ºK, well above the reference level of 6,500ºK, which implies a certain bluish tone that is noticeable in applications with a white background, such as the browser. Luckily, OPPO offers three possible manual color temperature settings (coldest, default, and warmest) that allow you to reach 6,371ºK, a value closer to the ideal value of 6,500ºK.

Smooth mode targets the sRGB color space and is therefore best suited if you are looking for the highest fidelity in most applications.

In this mode, the display covers 94% of the sRGB color space (and 65% of the DCI P3 space). The average error in color fidelity against the sRGB gamut is not as good as we expected as it is 3.1 dE, and the maximum error turns out to be 9.1 dE. In any case, they are good enough values.

The color temperature is 7,305ºK which, again, is above the reference level of 6,500ºK.

Display characteristics in Color Soft mode

According to my own measurements, the maximum brightness of OPPO Find X2 Neo is around 476 nits with 100% screen lit in white color (100% APL, Average Picture Level), which is how brightness is measured on a regular basis. Due to the operation of OLED panels, if we reduce the illuminated area, the maximum brightness that is measured is higher.

In automatic mode, when we are under strong light such as sunlight, the brightness increases to a maximum value of 777 nits with the screen fully illuminated, that is, with 100% APL. This value is very close to the 800 nits indicated by OPPO in the specification sheet.

In this comparative graph we reflect the maximum brightness value with the screen at 100% in white (APL 100%). The maximum measured brightness value is extremely high, as can be seen in the graph, where it surpasses any other smartphone we have tested to date.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has a visual comfort mode without screen flickering with low brightness that applies the technique known as DC Dimming. By activating this option, flickering of the screen when the brightness level is very low, which can cause headaches, is avoided, at the cost of the screen noise increasing slightly (a kind of texture is seen on a smooth background). .

OPPO has also incorporated an eye comfort mode that filters out blue light to ease eye strain. It can be activated manually or, if we prefer, program the start and end time.

OLED screens have a peculiar behavior when viewed from an angle. On the one hand, the light emitters are closer to the surface, and this causes the contrast and brightness to vary less as we move from the center, but on the other hand, the Pentile matrix causes the colors to be distorted.

In the case of the OPPO Find X2 Neo, the colors are slightly distorted when viewing the screen from an extreme angle, but it is not a serious problem. This effect is much more pronounced on the curved edges of the screen.

The screen offers excellent image quality

Since it is an OLED panel, the black color is very deep, so the colorimeter used has been unable to measure any level of brightness. This means that the black color is really dark and that the contrast is theoretically infinite (5,000,000:1 according to OPPO).

Despite having an OLED panel, OPPO has not included the Always On Display functionality or, as OPPO calls it on other devices, Screen Off Clock. I don't know why this absence is due, but this means that we cannot know if we have any notifications pending to be read.

What we can activate is turning on the screen with a double tap on it, which is convenient to check if there is something pending.

Performance

The Oppo Find X2 Neo has the upper-middle-range Snapdragon 765G processor, which was announced in December 2019 alongside the Snapdragon 865.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G is built on a 7nm process and features two clusters: a high-performance cluster consisting of two 2.4GHz and 2.2GHz ARM Cortex-A76 cores, and an efficiency cluster consisting of six cores Cortex-A55 at 1.8 GHz. Depending on the workload, only one of the two clusters works or both at the same time.

The performance of this processor is similar to the older Snapdragon 730G but the performance with one core is somewhat higher thanks to the more powerful core running at a higher clock frequency (+200 MHz = 9% higher).

Compared to the conventional Snapdragon 765, the 765G is optimized for gaming. This means that the graphics processor runs at a higher frequency and supports additional Snapdragon Elite Gaming features.

This chip is one of the first to integrate a 5G modem. It is the Snapdragon X52 and offers speeds of up to 3.7 / 1.6 Gbps and supports both mmWave and Sub-6 (with the appropriate antennas). As for the AI engine, it uses the CPU, GPU and dedicated cores to achieve a performance of 5.5 TOPS.

Focusing on the OPPO Find X2 Neo, it comes in a unique configuration with 12 GB of RAM, which is more than enough to be able to have several applications open at the same time. In fact, in my opinion, it would have been enough to include 8 GB of RAM but, as they say, better than missing it.

Next, we are going to see the results of the Oppo Find X2 Neo in various benchmarks, which will give us an idea of the power of this terminal compared to other smartphones.

In the AnTuTu v8 benchmark, it has scored 346,642 points, a high score but far from the most expensive flagships.

In the Geekbench 5 benchmark focused on processor performance, it has achieved 604 / 1,800 points in the single/multi-core tests, which again are good results.

In terms of storage, the phone scores well in AndroBench tests for storage read and write speeds.

In the PCMark 2.0 general performance test, it has obtained a score of 8,434 points, a value that is also high although it is surpassed by some high-end smartphones.

In the CPU Throttling test that measures the drop in CPU performance after 15 minutes of sustained load, the phone has seen performance drop by up to 75% over that period. This means that performance when running very demanding apps (such as games) can be affected by long game play.

Oppo Find X2 Neo in-depth review and opinion | Teknophile

The results that the OPPO Find X2 Neo has obtained in the benchmarks are good, although it is evident that it cannot compete against the flagships of this year or even last year, in terms of performance.

On a day-to-day basis, the OPPO Find X2 Neo moves smoothly and I have not missed a greater speed when using popular applications –such as WhatsApp, Twitter, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, Netflix, TokTok or Google Maps- or move around the interface.

The 12 GB of RAM of the OPPO Find X2 Neo helps keep a good number of apps in memory at the same time, and therefore I have not suffered from app closures when putting them in the background.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo smoothly handles the most demanding 3D games

In the 3DMark SlingShot graphics performance test, the phone performed well.

In the GFXBench test with traditional APIs, the device has obtained results that are high. However, it must be taken into account that the "on screen" tests are carried out at Full HD + resolution, while other smartphones with Quad HD + resolution carry them out at a lower resolution.

In GFXBench tests based on modern low-level, high-efficiency APIs (Metal/OpenGL and Vulkan), it again performs well, albeit far from the flagships.

In the graphics performance tests, the GPU has obtained good results in the benchmarks although it falls short of the results achieved by other smartphones with more powerful processors — and also much more expensive.

To check the graphics performance on a day-to-day basis, I have tried three demanding 3D games — Asphalt 9, Dead Effect 2 and Call of Duty Mobile — and in all of them, the experience when playing with the OPPO Find X2 Neo has been been very satisfactory.

Using the GameBench software, I have been able to measure various performance parameters in these games in real world play.

👉 Do you know GameBench Pro? GameBench Pro is the industry's leading tool for measuring gaming performance on Android and iOS smartphones. If you want to know more, you can visit their website.

The three titles move with a high frame rate (around 30 or 60 FPS, depending on the game) very consistently, as can be seen in the following table. The only issue I've noticed has been with Asphalt 9 where it would occasionally hang momentarily.

Gaming (*)Average FPSFPS StabilityFPSMin.-Max.
Asphalt 9 30100%24-31
Dead Effect 260100%59-61
Call of Duty Mobile60100%59-61

(*) Game Quality Settings:Asphalt 9: Default Graphics Quality by defaultDead Effect 2: High Visual Quality by defaultCall of Duty Mobile: High Graphics Quality and High Frame Rate by default

Smartphones tend to get quite hot under high load situations, such as when playing demanding 3D titles. In the case of the OPPO Find X2 Neo, I have measured maximum temperatures on the surface of the phone of around 41ºC around the camera area.

When it comes to playing games, OPPO includes a feature called Game Space. This functionality improves gaming performance by allocating more hardware resources to the game (at the cost of decreased battery life and increased heating), limiting network access for background apps to improve latency when gaming on network, and prevent automatic brightness adjustments.

Three performance modes can be selected:

The Game Space functionality is intended for gamers

During games, you can swipe from the top left corner to the center to open the Playspace settings quickly, as well as to open the Messenger or WhatsApp app in a small window without leaving the game.

You can also select Reject calls to block incoming calls and/or Block notifications to prevent pop-up notifications from appearing at the top of the screen.

OPPO also allows you to record the screen during games including the sound of the system or the microphone (you cannot record both at the same time), as well as the image of the front camera and the touches on the screen. You can select video resolution up to 1080p, but you can't pause recordings and resume later.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo comes with 256 GB of internal storage, an amount with which you should have no problem when storing a large number of photos, videos and applications.

OPPO has not included the possibility of expanding the storage via micro-SD but, taking into account the capacity with which it comes as standard, this does not seem to be a serious problem.

In terms of connectivity, the OPPO Find X2 Neo supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC. It does not have FM radio.

An interesting aspect is that it is possible to share a WiFi connection with other smartphones. While all smartphones can share a cellular connection, only some allow sharing a WiFi connection.

The USB-C port supports USB 3.1 and is compatible with OTG, so we can connect a USB key or a hard drive to access its storage from the phone.

Now, you will have to manually activate the “OTG connection” in Settings > Additional settings every time you want to transfer files via USB OTG. For some reason that I don't quite understand, this setting is disabled automatically every 10 minutes.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo is compatible with 5G NSA (but not SA) networks and supports the band below 6 GHz (Sub-6) but not the mmWave band. If you don't know what we're talking about, just know that the spectrum used for 5G is divided into two bands: below 6 GHz (Sub-6) and above 24 GHz (mmWave).

The main difference between the two is speed and coverage. The Sub-6 band provides better coverage but top speeds are only 20 percent faster than 4G LTE, so it's not nearly as impressive.

The mmWave band offers a very high download speed (up to 10 Gbps) but the coverage is much worse, about 200 meters, so it can happen that your phone spends more time connected to 4G than to 5G, especially when you are inside a building. This type of technology is designed for open spaces or areas with a high density of users where many antennas are installed.

That being said, there is currently much more sub-6 coverage internationally and, in the case of Spain, the mmWave spectrum auction does not yet have a date.

I've done some connection speed tests on both mobile and WiFi, and the results are good. The OPPO Find X2 Neo has reached 168 Mbps download and 88 Mbps upload on Wi-Fi with a fiber optic connection. In the cellular connectivity test, 62 Mbps download and 14 Mbps upload were reached with a 5G connection in an area with not very good coverage.

Unfortunately, OPPO does not offer a slot for a second SIM card nor does it support eSIM, so you cannot enjoy Dual SIM on the Find X2 Neo.

Biometrics

OPPO has incorporated a fingerprint reader under the screen, which allows you to unlock the phone by placing your finger on a specific area at the bottom of the screen.

OPPO claims that it uses a new technology that reduces the thickness by 91% and increases the unlocking area by 10%, but does not specify which smartphone these figures apply to.

To unlock the phone, simply place your finger on the fingerprint reader area whenever the fingerprint area mark appears on the screen. This happens if we pick up the phone (the entire screen lights up) or if it notices a slight movement (only the fingerprint area lights up).

Fingerprint recognition works quite fast and the recognition area is wide, so you don't need to place your finger exactly on the fingerprint icon for recognition to work.

However, I would have liked the fingerprint reader to be located a little higher since, in my opinion, it is too low and you have to extend your thumb to reach the reading area when you hold the phone normally.

The fingerprint reader is integrated into the screen itself

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has a 2D facial recognition system that allows you to unlock the phone with only your face by sliding the screen up while on the lock screen.

Recognition occurs quickly although, being 2D, we must bear in mind that it is not as secure as 3D systems and, therefore, it could be fooled with a photograph or video — although in my amateur tests with a mask with my face I have not succeeded.

Although facial recognition is not completely secure, OPPO has added a control that forces your eyes to be open for the phone to unlock. In addition, you can also combine facial recognition and fingerprint unlock so that your device will only be unlocked when you complete both authentication methods.

You can select whether you want to go directly to the desktop when facial recognition occurs, or whether you prefer to stay on the lock screen and swipe up when you really need to access the phone.

Battery

The OPPO Find X2 Neo's battery has a capacity of 4,025 mAh, which is a sufficient amount for a smartphone with this screen size.

In the PCMark battery life test, the OPPO Find X2 Neo lasted 9 hours and 19 minutes with the screen brightness calibrated to 200 nits. I have had the same result when setting the refresh rate to 60 or 90 Hz, so I am inclined to think that OPPO does not detect PCMark as 90 Hz compatible and switches to 60 Hz.

In any case, the result is good without being spectacular when compared to other smartphones I've tested.

On a day-to-day basis, the phone's autonomy is good and you shouldn't have a problem getting to the end of the day with fairly intensive use. However, it is not a smartphone that stands out for its autonomy, so I would not have minded seeing a larger battery even at the cost of increasing the thickness above 8 mm.

In the Battery section, we find a Save energy button that proposes actions to reduce battery consumption. In my case, it has suggested that I disable some applications that consume a lot of battery (curiously, I have never turned on some like Google Duo) and disable GPS.

Also offers a power saving mode that closes some background apps and optionally pauses background auto-sync, reduces screen brightness, sets screen off time to 15 seconds and/or reduce the screen refresh rate.

It is possible to indicate that the energy saving mode is deactivated when the battery exceeds 60% charge (if we have activated it while below it) or when it reaches 100% (if we have activated it while above it). It is also possible to configure the power saving mode to activate automatically when a certain battery level is reached, as well as to activate when the phone is idle (although this can cause delays in notifications from applications).

Just as there are options to reduce power consumption, there is also a high performance mode that puts the system to work at full power, although power consumption increases and therefore autonomy suffers.

By the way, one thing you're going to want to do is turn on the battery percentage in the status bar, otherwise it's hard to tell how much battery you have left (it doesn't even show up in the notification panel) .

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has a 30W Flash VOOC 4.0 fast charge, which promises to recharge 50% of the battery in just 20 minutes.

As you can see in the following graph, the loading process is very fast. In half an hour, we reach around 68% charge, and the entire charging process takes only 55 minutes.

The Oppo Find X2 Neo charges its entire battery in about 55 minutes

Finally, OPPO has not incorporated wireless charging into the Find X2 Neo, a functionality that I miss since I am a regular user of this type of charging.

Interface and functionalities

The OPPO Find X2 Neo runs Android 10 and, on top of the operating system, OPPO has incorporated its own ColorOS 7 customization layer.

The look of ColorOS strays quite a bit from the usual stock Android design and, as usual with Chinese layers, adds a fair amount of software functionality on top of it. There will be users who will find these improvements attractive, but there will also be others who would have preferred a version of Android closer to the original.

Starting with the appearance of the interface, the icons of the apps have, by default, a square shape with rounded corners but you can choose between various icon styles and even customize the appearance.

On the desktop, we can choose if we want a 4×6 grid of icons (default) or if we prefer a denser 5×6 grid.

OPPO incorporates a theme selector but, outside of Asia, it is only possible to choose a single theme, which is the one installed by default. I would have liked to see more themes to choose from.

ColorOS shows all the apps installed on the desktop, but if you prefer, you can use the app drawer. However, it is not possible to create folders or hide apps in the app drawer.

If we drag the desktop to the right, we access a board called Intelligent Assistant where access to quick access to applications, weather information, calendar, step counter, events and favorite contacts are shown. It's not particularly helpful, so I'd rather look at Google's Discover.

Dragging the screen from the center down while on the desktop opens the search that allows you to locate content in applications, contacts, messages, etc. and even suggests some apps.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo shows a lower navigation bar with the usual virtual buttons – Back, Home and Tasks – that we can hide/show if we activate the corresponding option and click on a small circle located to the left of the bar. If we don't like the order of the buttons, we can reverse them.

OPPO has also included a vertical swipe gesture navigation mode that, if activated, allows you to go back and go home by dragging your finger from the left/right and central part of the bottom area. We can also go to recent tasks by dragging our finger from the central part and holding down.

If this system doesn't work for you, a two-sided gesture navigation mode is also available that allows you to return to the home screen by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, back by swiping from the right or left of the screen, view recent tasks by swiping up and holding your finger, and switch to the latest app by swiping from the bottom right or left and holding your finger.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo does not have enough space to place a notification LED but has added a new “Screen Light Effects” feature that makes the curved edges of the screen light up to notify.

We can make it so that when a notification arrives, not only will the screen light up momentarily to be displayed, but also the edges of the screen will light up in purple, blue or orange. It is possible to customize the color to indicate incoming calls and even filter which types of contacts (VIP, favorites, calendar contacts, all or none) will produce light effects.

Not a true replacement for the notification LED, as the light effects on the screen don't light up repeatedly — it'll only work if you can see it when it first (and last) lights up.

OPPO has included gestures on the screen when it is turned off. We can press twice to turn on the screen, draw an "O" to start the camera, draw a "V" to turn on the flashlight, draw "||", "" to change the audio track and it is even possible to create custom actions (unlock, call or launch an app) by performing certain additional gestures.

Continuing with gestures, it is also possible to automatically answer a call when you bring the phone to your ear, switch from speakerphone to earpiece when you bring the phone to your ear, or mute incoming calls by turning the phone over. Finally, we can turn on the screen just by picking up the phone and taking screenshots by sliding three fingers.

On the right of the screen there is a tab called smart sidebar that, if we drag it to the center, displays a panel with various shortcuts to tools (screenshot, screen recording, messages, file gestures, calculator) .

We can customize these accesses to place the apps that we use most frequently, which can be useful for apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter or others that you use regularly.

The notification area shows six shortcuts at the top, which expand to a few more if we drag the screen down. Luckily, OPPO has reduced the size of the icons compared to previous versions since before they took up too much and left no space for notifications.

Under these charms we find the screen brightness control, and then the latest notifications.

It is possible to show only important notifications, either because we mark them manually or because the system determines it automatically.

OPPO has modified how notification suppression works. Instead of being able to swipe left or right interchangeably to remove a notification, you can now only choose to swipe left or right.

Speaking of notifications, if you decide to respond to a notification when you're using the smartphone in landscape, the default keyboard (and also Gboard) opens in a floating mode that doesn't take up the entire screen. And if you get a notification when you're viewing full-screen content, like a video, the notification is displayed in a small, nearly transparent bar.

When accessing Tasks through the virtual button or the gesture we can see the recently opened apps in the form of cards arranged horizontally.

If we drag one of the thumbnails up, we close the app, while if we click on the icons located above the app we can lock an app or activate the split screen.

While Lock allows you to keep an app in memory when you click the Delete button in the Task view, it doesn't really prevent the app from being shut down by the system if it needs to free up memory. On the other hand, the Split Screen function allows you to display two apps on the screen at the same time. It is curious that the OPPO Gallery app itself does not support split screen, while Google Photos does.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo is too big a smartphone but using it with one hand can be challenging. Luckily, the one-handed mode makes it easier. Once activated, the screen shrinks to the bottom left or right corner, drastically reducing the distance you have to stretch your thumb to touch the screen.

Unlike other implementations of one-handed mode, you won't accidentally exit this mode by tapping outside of the reduced area. The only drawback is that the way to activate this mode is through one of the shortcuts in the notification bar, which is not very useful because it is a difficult area to access with one hand.

OPPO has modified the Android Share panel to dramatically increase its speed. One of the biggest changes is the removal of Direct Share targets, which Android populates every time you open the Share panel. The Share panel also integrates OPPO Share, a file sharing solution that supports quick sending and receiving of files to and from OPPO, Realme, Xiaomi and Vivo devices. It has recently been joined by other brands such as OnePlus, Meizu and Black Shark.

Unfortunately, OPPO has removed the preview in the Share panel, so you can't see which image you're about to share. OPPO has also made the panel scroll horizontally instead of vertically, which can make sharing content annoying if you have a lot of apps installed.

OPPO takes user privacy seriously and has incorporated features such as the secure keyboard.

When you enter sensitive information such as passwords, the system automatically switches to the OPPO Secure Keyboard, which does not record inputs or connect to the network.

When using privacy features such as the secure keyboard, the system prevents screen capture or recording.

If any of the background applications use the microphone to record the system, this fact is indicated in the status bar.

Similarly, if any background app uses the camera to take photos, the system indicates this with a pop-up warning asking for permission.

Another interesting option is Protect Personal Information, which makes the apps we choose read empty information when trying to access call history, contacts, messages or calendar events — instead of the actual information.

We can also set rules to block calls and messages, as well as block certain numbers from contacting us. You can decide if you want to see a call blocked notification or you prefer to ignore them completely.

Another interesting option is File Protection, which displays an alert if an external application tries to delete camera images or screenshots. It is also possible to block pseudo base stations, which are fake mobile base stations that impersonate real mobile operator base stations to send fraudulent messages and advertisements to users.

It is possible to individually manage the permissions of each application for different purposes:

In this way, we can have total control over the applications, and adjust their use to our needs. For example, we can decide that Twitter cannot run in the background to save battery life, or that a game cannot use the mobile data connection in any case.

If you're used to taking a lot of screenshots, you'll be happy to know that OPPO comes with quite a few screenshot tools. For example, you can choose to delete the original screenshot after editing and saving it, take scrolling screenshots, use gestures to take screenshots, and take a partial screenshot.

Clicking on the mini screenshot preview that appears takes you to an editing interface with 5 options: Send, Scribble, Edit, Scroll or Delete. The Scribble option allows you to quickly draw on the image without opening the full screenshot editor. The Edit option takes you to the Photos app where you can edit the screenshot by cropping, rotating, blurring, and more.

The Scroll option takes a scrolling screenshot: instead of making the system start to slowly scroll down until you tell it to stop. You can also initiate the Scroll action by swiping up or down respectively on the screenshot preview.

OPPO offers another interesting functionality called App Cloner that allows you to log in with two different accounts in the same app at the same time. This is useful for apps that don't allow you to set up multiple accounts. Unfortunately, this functionality does not allow you to select any app, but only some such as Facebook, Messenger, Skype, Telegram or WhatsApp.

Another functionality related to privacy is Safe, which allows you to keep photos, videos, music and any other content away from prying eyes. OPPO allows you to protect access to this content using a PIN or fingerprint.

If we only want to restrict access to one or several apps, we can make use of the Application Lock, which allows us to protect access to an application by PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition. It is even possible to hide the app icon on the home screen and app drawer. In order for it to appear, it is necessary to enter a numerical code with the pound sign at the beginning and end on the dialer's numeric keypad (for example, #123456#).

OPPO has incorporated a mode called Intelligent Driving, which can be automatically activated when the phone detects that it has been connected to the car's Bluetooth receiver. With this mode activated, notifications, reminders and some calls are blocked to avoid distractions while driving.

In addition, it is possible to configure an automatic response by SMS when rejecting a call, designate some phone numbers as allowed and let ring a second call from the same phone number made within 3 minutes.

One of the ringtone options when setting an alarm in the Clock app is "Weather Adaptive". This option changes the alarm tone based on the weather conditions when the alarm goes off. It's a good way to vary the alarm sound so you don't get too used to it, while preparing you for each day's weather conditions.

OPPO offers a feature called Phone Clone that allows you to quickly transfer all data saved on the old phone (including photos, contacts and apps) to the new phone.

If you have kids around, you'll appreciate a feature called Kids Space that lets you restrict access to a few apps, limit usage time, and control the type of setting changes kids can make on your phone.

In recent years, manufacturers have focused on the digital well-being of their users. Android 10 incorporates Google Digital Wellbeing, but manufacturers continue to implement their own tools. In the case of OPPO, there is the OPPO Relax app. This is an app that provides music to help you de-stress, ambient sounds, and breathing exercises that can help alleviate anxiety a bit.

Finally, OPPO incorporates the Do Not Disturb functionality, which puts the phone in silent mode (without vibrations) at certain times/days. It is also possible to allow notifications (from any app, it is not possible to filter), messages or calls from certain contacts, as well as not muting a second call from the same number within a 3-minute interval. What is not possible is that this mode is automatically activated based on calendar events.

In the absence section, although most OPPO phones support DisplayPort Alt. Mode over USB-C, ColorOS does not provide a desktop-like interface in the style of Samsung's DeX or Huawei's EMUI Desktop.

Multimedia

The OPPO Find X2 Neo offers stereo sound as it has two speakers, one located at the bottom of the smartphone, to the right of the USB Type-C charging connector, and another on the the earphone.

The sound it emits has a fairly powerful volume and a great richness of tones. Obviously a greater depth of sound in the bass is missing, but in general it sounds much better than other smartphones.

Unfortunately, OPPO has not included a 3.5mm headphone jack, so if you are used to listening to music with headphones you will have to resort to a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter (one is not included in the box), headphones with a USB-C connector or with a Bluetooth connection.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo incorporates Dolby Atmos that provides greater depth to the sound when we use headphones.

Four sound modes can be selected: Intelligent (matches the sound to the function being used at the time), Theater/Cinema (provides clearer hyper-real 3D sound), Game (boosts bass) and Music (for a fuller and more balanced sound).

The OPPO Find X2 Neo uses its own Music app as its default music player. This app organizes the music in four tabs: songs, artists, albums and lists.

It's a fairly simple player, with no ability to download covers or lyrics. It is also not possible to play music stored on an external device (such as a NAS drive) or a cloud service.

Although some users have complained that the audios they send via WhatsApp have a very low volume and the receiver can barely hear them. Luckily, this problem was detected by OPPO and fixed on June 24, so I have not suffered from this problem. However, I comment here in case you read any comments about it.

When viewing photos, the OPPO Find X2 Neo uses its own Photos app that shows all the images stored on the phone and allows you to edit them.

This app is capable of creating memories (videos) from photos taken at the same place/date and can identify people in the photos that you can name to later search by person.

It is also capable of creating albums organized by places or themes by using AI to identify elements in the photo. In my album, he has identified objects such as food, architecture, flower, night, skirt, jewelry and electrical devices. Not always right.

Both actions occur in the background when the phone is connected to power with the screen off.

A feature that I like is that there is a Recently Deleted folder where all the photos you delete go to, in case you ever need to recover them. The photos remain there for 30 days before being completely deleted.

Video playback is good and the phone is able to play compatible files smoothly thanks to its processor.

I've tried playing some 1080p and 4K video, both encoded with both H.264 and the more modern and efficient HEVC (H.265), and all four played smoothly.

You can also enjoy streaming services like YouTube or Netflix on the smartphone screen. Of course, the OPPO Find X2 Neo has the necessary library to obtain the Widevine L1 certification and I have verified that it is capable of playing YouTube content in HDR but I have not been able to access HDR content on Netflix.

Camera

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has a quad rear camera:

Thanks to the presence of three cameras with different focal lengths (wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto), we can take pictures in a wide variety of situations.

The wide angle camera is the one you will use on a daily basis, the ultra wide angle camera is especially useful for taking pictures of buildings, landscapes or closed places, while the telephoto camera allows you to get closer to distant elements.

Then we can see the same scene captured by each of the three cameras:

Starting with the main camera, OPPO has incorporated the 1/2.0″ size Sony IMX586 sensor, which is widely used in mid-range smartphones. By default, photos are taken at 12MP using pixel binning technology that combines 4 pixels into 1 to reduce noise and improve performance in low light conditions.

The camera offers a mode called Dazzling Color AI, which the company says applies color restoration at the pixel level for true-to-life, vivid colors. In practice, however, I have a hard time noticing any appreciable difference with the naked eye.

As I mentioned before, the OPPO Find X2 Neo's 48MP sensor captures photos at 12MP by default. However, it is possible to activate a super high resolution mode in which the captures are made at 48MP.

Here is an example of a crop of a couple of photos taken at 48MP and 1 at 2MP. The resulting image is clearly sharper, although in my opinion it is not worth taking captures with this resolution unless you are very interested in making a subsequent crop since the file size goes from 5 to 15 MB approximately.

OPPO has incorporated a scene recognition system. When it is activated, the camera interface indicates the name of the scene it has recognized but, unlike other smartphones, it is not enough to click on it to deactivate it, but you must enter Settings and uncheck the AI scene recognition option.

Here are some examples of how scene recognition has increased image saturation when shooting food or flowers.

Focusing on the quality of the main camera, here are some photos taken with this camera.

First, I tested the main camera in good lighting conditions. In the following images we can see that the OPPO Find X2 Neo camera offers a good level of detail, vivid colors and a wide dynamic range with HDR mode in auto.

Photographs taken with the main camera in broad daylight

Next, I wanted to test the OPPO Find X2 Neo in low light conditions, which is where smartphone cameras tend to have the most difficulties.

Pictures taken in low light have some noise, but overall they are pretty good quality and color remains vivid. However, I get the feeling that it tends to underexpose the image a bit since the shadow areas look very dark.

Pictures taken with the main camera at night

One of the features offered by the OPPO Find X2 Neo camera is long-exposure shooting with Night mode, which allows you to take brighter nighttime photos without a tripod.

Shots in Night mode have a higher brightness level than those taken with normal mode, making it a useful mode for those occasions when we want the scene to appear brighter than it actually is.

This mode takes a little longer to take the picture, around 5-6 seconds, so it is not a mode to use all the time. My advice is not to abuse this mode outdoors as the result can look a bit artificial — also, images in Night mode seem to show a more orange tone.

Occasionally I have also noticed a loss of sharpness (for example, in the last photo of the following series of examples), probably because I have not held the phone steady enough during the capture time. Therefore, I recommend checking the capture as soon as you take it to make sure it looks good or repeat it otherwise.

The main camera also allows you to take pictures in Macro mode from a few centimeters away, as we can see in these examples.

The next camera is the ultra-wide angle camera, which has an 8 MP resolution, a fairly limited aperture of f/2.2, and lacks optical stabilization.

An ultra-wide-angle camera provides great versatility when it comes to capturing photos of landscapes or architecture. Personally, I find this type of lens very useful since it allows you to take much more spectacular and creative photographs than a normal camera.

Although blurring is more difficult with an ultra-wide lens, its limited aperture and lack of stabilization make this camera less than ideal for taking photos at night.

Shooting with the ultra-wide angle camera

Thirdly, we have the telephoto camera that offers 2x optical zoom with a 13MP sensor and f/2.4 aperture. Unfortunately OPPO has not incorporated optical stabilization (OIS), so you do not get a great result in low light conditions.

Here are some examples of photos taken with the telephoto lens.

Shooting with the 2X zoom telephoto camera

The OPPO Find X2 Neo's camera allows you to take photos in Portrait mode with the background out of focus (the well-known bokeh effect) using a 2MP monochrome camera.

In my portrait tests, I've gotten very good results, with very few instances where foreground elements (such as hair) have been mistaken for the background of the image.

Although smartphones usually allow you to choose between the main camera and the telephoto camera to take the portrait, OPPO only allows you to take portraits with the main (wide-angle) camera. This means that if you want to take a close-up of the face, you'll have to get really close and the face will look a little warped, like it's captured by a fisheye lens.

Here are some sample photos taken in Portrait mode.

Photographs taken in Portrait mode

OPPO offers some filters that can be applied to the Portraits in real time although, in my opinion, it is better to stick with the original photo and apply filters afterwards with any app.

Unfortunately, OPPO does not save the two versions of the photo — with and without the bokeh effect — so if the result is not good, you will not be able to use the original photo. Some manufacturers save both versions of the image and even, in some cases, allow you to alter the degree of blur afterwards.

The front camera has a 32MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture that offers a beauty mode that allows us to soften the skin, increase / reduce the size of the face, retouch the chin, enlarge the eyes, reduce the nose, etc

Although it doesn't have autofocus, the image quality is quite good. The captures offer a high sharpness, as we can see in these sample selfies, although its wide angle makes the faces captured up close look distorted with a fish eye.

Selfies taken without Portrait effect

The front camera also allows you to take selfies with Portrait mode, and we can also apply this effect to videos captured with this camera.

The blur result is pretty good but the HDR effect is no longer available, so the background looks burned out in many shots (compare the following images with the previous ones).

Selfie with Portrait effect on

The OPPO Find X2 Neo can record video with the main and ultra-wide angle cameras, but not with the telephoto camera.

With the main camera, it is possible to record at a maximum resolution of [email protected], while with the ultra-wide angle camera we are limited to [email protected] maximum. Videos can be saved using a "high efficiency" codec (H.265) to reduce video size or a "more compatible" codec (H.264) that ensures video playback on older devices.

The video offers good image quality and excellent stabilization, as can be seen in these videos recorded during the day.

4K videos recorded with the main camera during the day

Next, we can see some videos taken in low light conditions, where the quality is also quite good although when shooting at 60 fps the image is too dark.

4K videos recorded with the main camera at night

OPPO allows you to record video with a bokeh effect (blurred background), successfully separating the image of the person we are recording from the background of the image. Next, we can see an example.

Lastly, the OPPO Find X2 Neo also offers a new Ultra Stabilization mode when recording video in 1080p resolution that combines optical and electronic stabilization to further reduce image vibration.

This mode is especially useful if we are going to record video with a lot of movement on our part (for example, if we are riding in a car). The drawback it has is that it eliminates the edges of the image, so we have a narrower viewing angle.

OPPO has also included an Ultra Stabilization Pro mode that uses a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens and an improved stabilization algorithm. When using the ultra-wide camera, the image quality is not as good as with the main camera.

Voice calls

In the tests I have carried out, the voice quality during calls is correct and I have been able to hold conversations perfectly in moderately noisy environments without difficulties.

Price and competitors

The OPPO Find X2 Neo is for sale at a price of €699.90 in Spain but you can get it at a slightly lower price on sites like Amazon Spain.

Within the OPPO brand, an alternative is the OPPO Find X2 (€999), which presents some improvements since it has a 6.7″ QuadHD+ AMOLED screen at 120 Hz, Snapdragon 865, 8/12GB of RAM, 128/ 256GB of storage, rear camera 48MP (wide angle) + 13MP (telephoto) + 12MP (ultra wide angle), 32MP front camera and 4,200 mAh battery with 65W fast charging.

Another option is the OPPO Find X2 Lite (€469) with a 6.4 AMOLED FullHD+ screen, Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, 48MP (wide angle) + 8MP (ultra wide angle) + 2MP rear camera (depth) + 2MP (black and white), 32MP front camera, 4,025 mAh battery with 30W charging.

If we look at other brands, we have some interesting options that can compete against the OPPO Find X2 Neo in performance.

Recently, OnePlus has announced the OnePlus Nord (€369 on Amazon) with a 6.44″ FullHD AMOLED screen at 90 Hz, Snapdragon 765G processor, 8/12GB of RAM, 128/256GB of storage, 48MP rear cameras (large angle) + 8MP (ultra wide angle) + 5MP (depth) + 2MP (macro), 32MP (wide angle) + 8MP (ultra wide angle) front camera and 4,115 mAh battery with 30W charging.

In the same brand we find the OnePlus 8 (€609 on Amazon) with a 6.55″ AMOLED FullHD screen, Snapdragon 865, 8/12GB RAM, 128/256 GB storage, 48MP (wide angle) + 16MP (ultra-wide) rear cameras wide angle) + 2MP (macro), 16MP front camera and 4,300 mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

The POCO F2 Pro (€445 on Amazon) has a 6.7″ Super AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 865 processor, 6/8 GB of RAM, 128/256 GB of storage, 64MP (wide angle) + 5MP rear camera (telephoto) + 13MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (depth), 20MP pop-up front camera and 4,700 mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 (€469 at Mi.com) has a 6.5″ AMOLED screen with FullHD+ resolution, Snapdragon 730G processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, 108MP (main) + 12MP (main) rear camera 2x telephoto) + 8MP (5x telephoto) + 20MP (ultra wide angle) + 2MP (macro), 32MP front camera and 5,260 mAh battery.

Finally, another good option is the Realme X50 Pro 5G (€579 on Amazon) that has a 6.4″ Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution at 90Hz, Snapdragon 865 processor, 6/8/12 GB of RAM, 128/256GB storage, rear camera 64MP (wide) + 12MP (telephoto) + 8MP (ultra-wide/macro) + 2MP (depth), front camera 32MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) and 4,200 mAh battery.

Conclusions

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has a modern front, with a large screen surrounded by narrow frames on all four sides, achieving a screen-to-body ratio of 90%.

Following the latest trends, OPPO has incorporated the front camera into a hole drilled in the screen itself. Its position in the upper left corner does not interfere with games or full-screen videos — something that other smartphones cannot boast of.

The screen has a pronounced curvature on the sides, which causes some reflections when looking at the screen, especially from an angle.

The back of the OPPO Find X2 Neo is made of glass. The phone is available in black and blue colors, both with a glossy finish that is a magnet for fingerprints.

On the back is the large elongated camera module, which protrudes from the surface of the phone and does this dance when you touch the screen when it's resting on a table.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo is one of the lightest and thinnest smartphones I've tested, measuring just 7.7mm thick and weighing 171 grams. A complete success for those who flee from bulky smartphones.

The unit I've tested has a small build flaw as the SIM card tray doesn't fit all the way and protrudes slightly. I guess it's not a general problem but the unit I received.

Unfortunately, OPPO has not made the phone water and dust resistant, so you should be careful not to accidentally get it wet.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has a 6.5″ AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution, which implies a pixel density of 402 ppi, more than enough to guarantee high sharpness.

The screen offers a wide color gamut as it covers the entire sRGB and DCI P3 color spaces, and it supports playback of HDR content, although I have not been able to access HDR content from Netflix (but I have from Youtube).

The screen features excellent color fidelity, especially in Vivid color mode which targets the DCI P3 color gamut, as well as a very high maximum brightness of 777 nits (with screen lit at 100%), above of almost all smartphones I've tested to date.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo also features a low brightness flicker-free visual comfort mode that applies the technique known as DC Dimming.

We are facing a panel with a high refresh rate of 90 Hz that makes animations look much smoother. Some manufacturers already offer panels at 120 Hz but the difference between 90 and 120 Hz is not as noticeable as the jump between 60 and 90 Hz.

Surprisingly, the screen does not offer an Always On Display mode to permanently see the time, battery level and notification icons. I do not know what has led OPPO to omit this functionality since other smartphones of the brand with OLED screens do they own it.

OPPO has incorporated a fingerprint reader under the screen that allows you to unlock the phone with just the touch of your finger while the Always On Screen is on. However, since the phone does not have an Always Active Screen, the fingerprint reading area is not always visible, but only when the phone detects movement.

The fingerprint reader is reliable when it comes to identifying the fingerprint and offers a fairly wide reading area, so you won't have a problem when unlocking the phone.

In addition, it also incorporates 2D facial recognition, which works quickly although it is not as secure as fingerprint or 3D facial recognition systems from other manufacturers.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo has powerful hardware as it has a Snapdragon 765G processor, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

In benchmarks, the smartphone scored highly in all tests, as expected. Obviously it cannot compete in power against smartphones with the Snapdragon 865 chip but, for most users, the performance of the OPPO Find X2 Neo is more than enough.

On a day-to-day basis, the interface moves very smoothly and I haven't noticed any signs of lag or slowness in any app.

The latest games are no problem for this smartphone either. I have been able to measure stable rates of 30 or 60 FPS in games like Asphalt 9, Dead Effect 2 or Call of Duty. I've only encountered a momentary stoppage in Asphalt 9, although I don't think it's due to lack of power.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo does not allow you to increase the storage via micro-SD although, with 256 GB on board, this should not be a big problem.

In terms of connectivity, the OPPO Find X2 Neo supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC, but lacks FM radio. It is compatible with 5G NSA networks (but not SA) and supports the band below 6 GHz (Sub-6) but not the mmWave band (probably because this forces the addition of additional antennas that take up space and increase the price).

Unfortunately, OPPO does not offer a slot for a second SIM card nor does it support eSIM, so you cannot enjoy Dual SIM on the Find X2 Neo. This can be a problem for some users who are used to carrying two SIMs — one personal and one professional — or who travel to other countries.

The smartphone has a 4,025 mAh battery that offers good autonomy without being spectacular. In general, you will have no problem reaching the end of the day with good use of the phone, although I would not have minded seeing a larger battery at the cost of a slightly thicker one.

If you run out of battery, you'll be happy to know that it offers 30W Flash VOOC 4.0 fast charging. In half an hour, we reach around 68% charge, and the entire charging process takes only 55 minutes.

Unfortunately, it does not have wireless charging, an absence that reduces the comfort when charging the smartphone.

In the multimedia aspect, it incorporates stereo speakers on the top and bottom of the phone. The sound is heard with enough power and a good richness of tones — within what can be expected in a smartphone. In addition, it has Dolby Atmos, which provides greater depth to the sound.

At the software level, it comes with Android 10 and, above the operating system, OPPO has incorporated its own ColorOS 7 customization layer.

This layer adds a large number of features that complement Android such as granular app permissions, multi-account app cloning, screen-off gestures, smart sidebar, app lock, secure keyboard, smart driving, hiding apps on the desk and a safe to protect files.

One thing I don't like about ColorOS 7 is that you can't access Google Discover on the left screen, instead it shows a rather unhelpful screen called Smart Assistant.

ColorOS 7 comes with a theme manager, but outside of Asia, we can only choose one theme, so it's useless.

When it comes to enjoying games, OPPO includes a functionality called Game Space, which improves gaming performance by allocating more hardware resources, limiting network access to other apps to improve latency, prevents settings auto-brightness, open Messenger/WhatsApp in a window and record screen with audio during games.

In the photographic section, the OPPO Find X2 Neo has a quad rear camera made up of a 48MP f/1.7 OIS main camera, a 2x 13MP f/2.4 telephoto camera, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP monochrome camera.

By default, the 48MP main camera makes use of pixel binning to capture photos at 12MP, though it offers a super high-res mode that takes advantage of the full 48MP resolution for sharper photos (but taking up almost the space). triple space).

In good light, images taken by the main camera look sharp and colourful, and when the light is dim, snapshots maintain good image quality.

Like any self-respecting camera, it offers AI scene detection capabilities as well as a Night mode capable of taking photos in very low light — although these look somewhat artificial as they feel too bright.

The ultra wide angle camera is ideal for taking photos of landscapes or monuments, as it offers a totally different perspective. The downside is that in low-light conditions, quality suffers from the lack of optical stabilization and a more limited aperture.

Lastly, the telephoto camera offers 2x optical zoom but has some limitations, such as the lack of optical stabilization and a small aperture that make the image quite noisy and poorly sharp at night.

The main camera allows you to take photos in Portrait mode in combination with the 2MP monochrome camera that captures depth information.

In my tests, portrait image quality is excellent, with good subject-background separation. However, portraits are taken with the main (wide-angle) camera rather than the telephoto camera, so close-ups show some face distortion if you get too close.

The OPPO Find X2 Neo can record 4K video at 30 fps, 1080p at 30/60 fps and 720p at 30/60 fps with good image quality and stabilization, which is even better with some of the ultra-stabilization modes that it incorporates .

The front camera has a 32MP resolution, so it is capable of capturing razor-sharp selfies and a wide dynamic range thanks to the use of HDR. This camera also allows you to capture photos in Portrait mode with good results, although HDR is lost.

Is it worth buying the OPPO Find X2 Neo? If you are looking for a smartphone with an attractive design, an excellent screen, powerful 5G-ready hardware, fast charging, and a fairly competent camera, the OPPO Find X2 Neo is a good choice.

Now, in the market you will find smartphones that surpass it in certain sections at a lower price, so the purchase decision will depend on what you value in a smartphone.
