The CSIC affirms that moderate beer consumption reduces the risk of broken bones in the elderly

First it was the campaign of the minister Alberto Garzón against the consumption of meat and now the CSIC publishes a study on the consumption of beer. Both talk about the amount that we should consume of the food in question. The first defends the reduction of meat in the diet, but the second has surprised by the daily beer that it recommends. The document entitled 'Moderate consumption of beer and its effects on cardiovascular and metabolic health: an updated review of recent scientific evidence' defends that moderate beer consumption is beneficial for cardiovascular health, a decrease in the possibility of suffering from diabetes in men and an increase in bone density. It is not the first time that we have been told that moderate alcohol consumption has effects positive for health, but what do they mean by moderate? This study offers concrete data: 28 grams a day for men and 16 for women. This translates into two and one beer a day respectively. This consumption, according to the CSIC, must be distributed in this way throughout the week. That is to say, it is not advisable to drink the total number of beers for a week in a single day and not drink again until seven days later. The health benefits will be present if we distribute the beer day by day and accompany its consumption with food. CRITICS The results of this study have given rise to much joy, but also much criticism. It has been through Twitter that various nutritionists have positioned themselves totally against the CSIC, stating that a habit of alcohol consumption increases the risk of cancer and that there is no safe dose of alcohol.
