La Nación A light at the end of the tunnel: after 44 days, Caaguazú reported no deaths from COVID-19

Paraguay reports a significant decrease in COVID-19 cases, despite the fact that the number of deaths does not fall below 100 daily. There are localities where they do not report deaths and the positives do not exceed ten per day. In the department of Caaguazú today they celebrate that yesterday, Tuesday, no deaths from the virus were reported.

This afternoon, Dr. Lorena Ocampos, director of the V Sanitary Region of Caaguazú, confirmed that after 44 days yesterday no deaths from COVID-19 were reported, news of celebration for both the community and health professionals who day by day fight against the illness.

“May 29 was the last time we did not report deaths, from the next day every day there were six to eight deaths per day. We are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, yesterday after more than a month and a half we did not report deaths, ”she said in contact with C9N.

She stressed that since this week fewer cases of contagion have been reported and that this shows that the vaccines are already having an effect on immunized people. “We hope to reach zero cases of contagion. We are very optimistic that vaccination is also having a very good acceptance, ”she said.

She added that so far within the department, 95% of health professionals have already been vaccinated and that some 40,000 people within the age range have also received at least one dose of anti-COVID vaccines.

At another time, the professional stressed that it is not necessary to relax the sanitary measures to continue with these numbers. “Yesterday we only had eight infections and we have no patients on the ICU waiting list. In addition, hospitalizations in the normal ward have decreased, ”said Ocampos.
