Wearing a mask is essential to take care of our health and that of the people around us. However, despite the fact that it brings us many benefits, we are also suffering from other not so desired effects.

We have already heard of one, the feared and hated maskné. It was one of the first effects that we noticed and to which we previously wanted to put a solution to get rid of those pimples that come out due to the humid and hot climate that we create with our breathing inside the mask, favoring the proliferation of bacteria.

During these last few months, tips, remedies and cosmetics have appeared to treat maskné in particular and our facial routine has become more complete than ever.

However, there is another adversary to combat due to the use of the mask: masktitis. This is the name by which thousands of people are referring to dermatitis associated with face masks. A phenomenon that, far from being an isolated case, is also suffered by a large number of people.

This is due to excessive heat and the continuous rubbing of the mask on the skin, which ends up irritating it and causing it to become unbalanced very easily, causing these breakouts.

Although we all wear masks, not the entire population suffers from maskitis, in fact, more people are affected by maskné. This is because dermatitis usually affects individuals who have a genetic predisposition to develop it. That is, those who have dry, sensitive and/or reactive skin.

How to take care of the skin if we have 'maskitis'

The most important thing, as with the maskné, is to change the mask frequently to avoid generating that hostile microclimate for our skin and to wash them regularly.

Another of the most valuable points is to carry out correct facial hygiene, twice a day, with products that are not aggressive with the skin or dry it out. If unfortunately we already have an active outbreak, many international dermatologists such as Dr. Dennis Gross recommend a niacinamide treatment, as it helps calm irritations and improves the skin's protective barrier.

Another ingredient that we should bet on is centella asiatica, an anti-inflammatory active ingredient with a repairing, renewing and moisturizing action that makes it perfect for treating skin with dermatitis.
