SEOUL, Jan. 20 (Yonhap) -- North Korea is stepping up anti-virus efforts and tightening border control to prevent the novel coronavirus, a North Korean state media reported Wednesday, as major political events, attended by thousands of delegates, concluded last week in the North Korean capital.
Pyongyang ended the eight-day Workers' Party (WPK) congress and held a military parade last week, during which thousands of attendees, including North Korean State Affairs Committee Chairman Kim Jong-un , were seen without wearing the masks.
The officials who attended the meeting of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) - the Parliament of mere formality of the North - on Sunday, were also sitting close to each other without wearing masks.

The North's Korea Central Broadcasting Station (KCBS) said they are carrying out efforts to tighten control at land, sea and air borders and introduce logical and effective ways of disinfection based on their experience in anti-virus work last year. .
The North is maintaining order in the border and coastal areas and notifying relevant authorities of any objects that have been blown by the wind or washed ashore, the KCBS said.
He added that strict disinfection measures in public transportation areas are also underway and medical institutions are reminding patients and other people to abide by anti-virus rules.
North Korea has claimed to be free of the coronavirus but has been making nationwide efforts to prevent the outbreak of the contagious disease, including a border closure implemented in January last year.
In early December, state media said that Pyongyang has imposed the highest level of alert against the coronavirus, suspending the operation of public facilities such as restaurants and public bathhouses, and restricting the movement of people in the capital.
