Tertulia Café / Photography: Toledo Booksellers Association
The writers Edurne Portela and José Ovejero will be the protagonists of the literary gathering that will be held at the Hotel Posada de Sillería this Saturday, January 29, at 5:30 p.m. To attend it is necessary to send an email to toledolee@toledo.es.
This meeting ends the first edition of the coffee gatherings organized by the City Council and the Toledo Booksellers Association within the framework of the municipal program 'Toledo Lee'.
In the morning of that same day, at 1 pm, the authors will participate in a forum with the +13 Reading Club at the Library of Castilla-La Mancha.
The Councilor for Education and Culture, Teo García, has encouraged the people of Toledo to join this interesting proposal in which they will have the opportunity to talk, debate and speak with both writers in the first person, as well as ask them any questions or curious about his writings and career path.
Edurne Portela is known for her novels 'Absence is better', 'Ways of being far away' or 'Los ojos cerrados', her latest book, in which she shows the repercussions of the Civil War on a town today.
Meanwhile, José Ovejero will also talk about his latest published work, 'Humo', in which he deals with the story of a woman and a child, isolated in a cabin in the woods. Ovejero has received some recognition throughout his career, such as the Anagrama Award for his essay 'La ética de la crueldad' or the Alfaguara Award in 2013 for his novel 'The invention of love'.
Portela and Ovejero have worked together on the production of the documentary 'Vida y ficción' in 2017, which includes conversations with writers who write in Spain or have a very close relationship with the country such as Rosa Montero, Marta Sanz, Antonio Orejudo, Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Luisgé Martín or Cristina Fernández Cubas.
Other writers such as Ernesto Ekáizer or Daniel Gascón have attended the first edition of the 'Café Gatherings'. For its development, there have been two more hotel establishments in the Historic Center, the Eugenia de Montijo Hotel and the Adolfo Boutique Hotel.
The Councilor for Culture has advanced that, as was proposed together with the Toledo Booksellers Association, there will be a second cycle of these gatherings to "maintain the line of synergies between booksellers, writers and hotel owners in the city ".
