The slots are provisional and are liable to increase or decrease as per administrative needs at the time of final selection. The official notification PDF gives the full trade-wise and community-wise break-up (UR / OBC / SC / ST / EWS, with reserved slots for PwBD and Ex-Servicemen included within the totals) for every unit. Trades covered across units include Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Carpenter, Painter, Mason, Pipe Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Turner/Machinist, Electronics Mechanic, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA), Machine Tool Maintenance, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and others. Candidates may apply for only ONE unit — check the official PDF first to confirm that your ITI trade has slots in the unit you choose.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must have passed the 10th class examination or its equivalent (under the 10+2 examination system) with **minimum 50% marks in aggregate** from a recognised Board — no rounding off is done. The candidate must also possess a **National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the notified trade** issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT). Both qualifications must be held as on the date of submission of the application — candidates awaiting final examination results must not apply.
Qualifications must be from a recognised Board, Government University or Institute. Before selecting a unit, verify from the official notification that a training slot exists for your specific ITI trade in that unit. If your trade has no slot in the chosen unit, your application will be meaningless, because no change is allowed after final submission. A candidate may submit only one application — multiple applications with different particulars lead to summary rejection of all of them.
Age Limit (as on 06/11/2026)
| Category | Age Limit |
| General / UR | 15 years (minimum) to 24 years (maximum) |
| OBC | Up to 27 years (+3 years relaxation) |
| SC / ST | Up to 29 years (+5 years relaxation) |
| PwBD | Up to 34 years (+10 years relaxation) |
| Ex-Servicemen | Relaxable to the extent of service rendered in Defence Forces + 3 years (minimum 6 months service required) |
Age is counted as on 6 November 2026. SC/ST candidates must produce a caste certificate in the Central Government format at Document Verification. OBC candidates must produce a Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026 in the Central Government format, along with the OBC declaration. EWS candidates must produce an EWS certificate in the prescribed format.
Salary / Pay Scale
This is apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 — there is no pay level or pay matrix. Training period and stipend will be as per the extant rules and directives issued by the Railway Board from time to time. No hostel accommodation is provided; selected candidates must arrange their own stay. Completion of apprenticeship training does not create any right to employment on the Railway.
Selection Process
There is no written examination and no interview. Selection is entirely merit-based, in the following order:
1. **Merit list preparation** — the merit percentage is the simple average of the Class 10 aggregate percentage and the ITI marks percentage: Merit % = (Class 10 % + ITI %) ÷ 2. For Class 10, the aggregate of all subjects is counted; for ITI, the marks in the provisional or final NTC certificate are counted.
2. **Unit-wise, trade-wise, community-wise lists** — the final merit list is prepared separately for each division/unit, each trade and each community (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS), equal to the number of slots. No centralised merit list is formed.
3. **Tie-breaking** — if two candidates have the same marks, the older candidate is preferred; if the dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed the matriculation examination earlier is ranked first.
4. **Document Verification** — shortlisted candidates are called to their opted division/unit with original certificates.
5. **Medical Examination** — candidates must produce a medical fitness certificate in the prescribed format.
Exam Pattern
Not applicable — selection is merit-based and no written examination is held. The notification does not prescribe any exam subjects, marks, duration or negative marking.
