The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has released the Combined Civil Services Examination-IV (Group IV Services) notification vide Advertisement No. 747 and Notification No. 11/2026 dated 06 October 2026. A total of 6,574 tentative vacancies across 46 post entries will be filled in Tamil Nadu Government departments, services, corporations and boards. Online applications will be accepted from 06 October 2026 to 05 November 2026. The minimum qualification is SSLC (10th) pass for most posts. The written examination will be held on 10 January 2027. Read the notification for eligibility, selection process, pay scale and all other information.

The examination fee of Rs. 100 is payable online through the permitted modes while submitting the application, unless the candidate is eligible for fee exemption under TNPSC rules. One Time Registration costs Rs. 150 and remains valid for five years; candidates who already hold a valid OTR need not register again. Candidates claiming fee exemption must ensure they satisfy all conditions — a false exemption claim can lead to rejection and debarment.

The notification states that the 6,574 vacancies are tentative and liable for modification before the start of counselling. The Commission may include additional posts with similar eligibility before counselling, and the department / unit-wise distribution of vacancies will be announced later.

For a large number of posts — including Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Revenue Assistant, Tax Collector, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard — the minimum general educational qualification is an SSLC (10th Standard) pass or equivalent. Candidates who have not passed the SSLC examination or its equivalent are not eligible even if they hold a higher qualification.

Typist posts additionally require the prescribed Government Technical Examination qualification in typewriting (Higher/Senior grade in Tamil and English, or the accepted combinations). Steno-Typist Grade III and Shorthand Typist posts require typewriting and shorthand qualifications. Executive Officer Grade IV, Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies, Senior Laboratory Assistant and a few other specialised posts require a degree or subject-specific qualification. Candidates must check the exact educational and technical qualification against their chosen post code in Notification No. 11/2026 before applying.

Higher maximum age limits and concessions apply to BC, BCM, MBC/DC, SC, SC(A), ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, Destitute Widow and other eligible categories as per the detailed post-wise and category-wise age tables in the notification (for example, up to 40 years for persons with benchmark disability and up to 48 years for ex-servicemen on certain posts). Some corporation and board posts carry no maximum age limit. Candidates must verify the age conditions for their post and category in the official notification.

Most Group IV posts are placed in Pay Level 8 of the Tamil Nadu revised pay matrix, while Steno-Typist Grade III, Personal Clerk, Shorthand Typist Grade III, Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies and Senior Laboratory Assistant are in Pay Level 10. Junior Assistant (Accounts), Bill Collector (3214), Record Clerk Grade III and Forest Watcher are in Level 3 (Rs. 16,600 – 52,400 for Bill Collector; Rs. 19,500 – 62,000 for Junior Assistant (Accounts)), and Forest Guard with Driving Licence is in Level 5. Junior Assistant (3788) carries Rs. 17,000 – 54,060. Posts under EPF conditions follow the applicable corporation pay scales. Dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other allowances are admissible as per Tamil Nadu Government norms.

  1. Single OMR-based written examination (one paper: Part A Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test, Part B General Studies, Part C Aptitude and Mental Ability).
  2. Certificate verification of shortlisted candidates based on written test merit.
  3. Centralised counselling and post allotment based on rank and community reservation.

There is no interview stage. Part B and Part C answer sheets are evaluated only if the candidate secures the minimum qualifying marks in Part A. Final merit is prepared on the total marks of all three parts.

Minimum qualifying marks in Part A: 40% (60 marks) — Part B and Part C are evaluated only if this is secured. No negative marking is specified in the notification. Marks from all three parts are counted for the final ranking.
